JIS 190H52 (N200) Battery¶
The 190H52 is a JIS N200 group-size automotive battery — the largest, highest-capacity starting unit in the JIS N-series. Built for the most demanding cranking loads in large commercial vehicles and heavy machinery, it pairs a 200 Ah class energy reserve with peak cold-cranking output.
The model code follows JIS convention: 190 is the cranking-performance rating, and H52 is the terminal-and-case code (H denotes the terminal profile, 52 the taller case class used for high-capacity N-series cells). Aliases include 190H52, N200, and CMF190H52. See Standards Comparison for how JIS maps against DIN and BCI families.
Key Specifications¶
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Standard | JIS D 5301 (N-series) |
| Group Size | N200 |
| Voltage | 12V (6 cells) |
| Capacity (C20) | 200 Ah |
| CCA (reference) | 1100 A (SAE, −18°C) |
| Reserve Capacity | ~407 min (confirm on inquiry) |
| Terminal Type | JIS post — confirm polarity on inquiry |
| Application | Large trucks, buses, construction/agricultural equipment |
As with every CCA figure on this site, the 1100 A value is a reference and is test-method dependent. A JIS-basis (−15°C) number and an SAE/EN-basis (−18°C) number are not comparable, and some vendor datasheets rate the N200 as high as 1200 CCA. Confirm the basis and final value with the manufacturer before writing a specification. See CCA Testing.
Electrical Performance¶
The N200 is selected when a standard N150 is not enough — where the engine is larger, the cold-weather cranking window is harsher, or the accessory bank is heavier.
- Capacity (C20) — 200 amp-hours at the 20-hour rate, the highest in the JIS line.
- CCA — roughly 1000–1200 A depending on test basis and plate design. This is the figure that matters for large-displacement diesels turning over in cold conditions.
- Reserve Capacity (RC) — some N200 datasheets list RC around 407 minutes at a 25 A discharge; confirm the exact value against the specific batch.
- Charging current — high-capacity N-series units accept substantial bulk charge; confirm the recommended rate from the datasheet to avoid overloading the alternator on short duty cycles.
For the biggest engines, capacity and cranking current rise together — you can't trade one for the other. See Capacity & Reserve.
Dimensions & Tolerance¶
Case dimensions are confirmed against the production batch. Reference figures are approximately:
| Dimension | Reference value |
|---|---|
| Length | ~515–521 mm |
| Width | ~267–278 mm |
| Height | ~216–241 mm (varies with lid/handle configuration) |
| Wet weight | ~52 kg |
The N200 is heavier than the N150 by roughly 7 kg and sits in a larger tray. Note the wide height spread across datasheets — flat-head and handled variants differ materially — so always confirm the exact case envelope for your installation rather than trusting a single published height.
Terminal Type & Polarity¶
The N200 uses JIS posts, the smaller tapered terminals standard on Japanese and Asian vehicles. They do not interchange with DIN recessed terminals or BCI/SAE top posts without an adapter.
Polarity and terminal layout must be confirmed on inquiry. The N200 ships in both right-positive and left-positive configurations, and a mismatch means cables will not reach or a reversed-connection risk at install. Confirm the layout against the vehicle's cable routing and hold-down.
Compatible Vehicles & Applications¶
The N200 targets the largest commercial and industrial starting loads:
- Large trucks, tractor heads, and heavy haulers — long-haul and prime-mover platforms with high-displacement diesel engines.
- Buses and coaches — including units running heavy pneumatic door systems and continuous climate loads.
- Construction & agricultural equipment — large excavators, wheel loaders, bulldozers, and harvesters combining peak cranking torque with constant vibration.
- Diesel generator sets — where a 12V bank must deliver an assured cold start on demand.
Like the N150, the N200 is a fuel-engine starting battery. It is not a deep-cycle or lithium/hybrid unit, and repeated deep discharge will shorten its life.
N200 vs N150¶
The N200 steps up from the N150 in every dimension that matters: 200 Ah versus ~160 Ah, ~1100 A versus ~1050 A reference CCA, and a larger, heavier case. Choose the N200 when the N150's capacity or cranking margin is borderline for the engine in question. See the 145G51 (N150) page.
